Another Presidential Commission to Investigate Corruptions and Bribes – President


New Presidential Commission will be appointed to investigate bribes and Corruptions in Sri Lankan and Mihin Lanka Air Lines said the President. The President emphasised that there would be a severe action against corruptions and briberies. The commission is due to be appointed in early January; said the President while addressing a public meeting held at the Sathi Pola in Kaduwela yesterday (24).
A committee has appointed after the presidential election in 2015 to look into the losses of state institutions such as Sri Lankan Airlines. The said committee headed by Attorney JC Weliamuna and the report was given to Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe in April 2015. However, no recommendations have been made yet.
The committee report has proposed that the former head of the Ari Lines should be investigated for corruption, and punish them before court accordingly.
Former President Mahinda Rajapakse’s brother-in-law Nishantha Wickremasinghe worked as the head of the airline. Nishantha Wickramasinghe and his chief executive Kapila Chandrasena were also charged with fraud and corruption.
