Censorship on ‘Lanka e-News’ Should be Removed Immediately- Media Organisations Protests

Sri Lanka Professional Journalists’ Association and the Free Media Movement have released a statement that the un-official censurship should be abolished with immediate effect as the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has blocked access to the Lanka-e-News website.
The Free Media Movement Convenor C. Dodawatte and Secretary Dilisha Abeysundara signed the following statement today;
“This censure can be considered as the present government’s a threatening intervention through various attacks against the media and journalists over last three years.
We urge the government to be precise their arbitrary suppression trend immediately by abolishing the injunction against Lanka-e-News and ensuring the media freedom and democracy of the country.
In this regard, the announcement was made by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Professional Journalism Association Lasantha Ruhunage and Secretary, Duminda Sampath;
We strongly condemn the censure of the E-news website by Sri Lanka Telecom Online Networking Service since 08.11.2017. The public and the media were not expecting these filthy actions as the government came into power promising the media freedom.
