JVP Leader Anura Dissanayake says people should be held responsible for the re-election of wicked forces defeated in the general election on 8th of January, 2015. He said this at a press conference held at the JVP headquarters at Pelawatta on Sunday(11th) expressing views on the local government election results.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that his party did not receive the desired results as expected. He also said that the party had more votes than the 2011 local government election, a bigger percentage of votes, Parliamentary Seats and a bigger percentage of MPs.
The JVP leader expressed his views as follows:
“The wicked forces who were defeated at the general election 8th January, misappropriated public property and funds, carried out undemocratic moves against the public, the forces that were prepared to create a certain culture in the country, has been brought back to power by this election. Especially, the Rajapakshas have been brought back to power.
From the people’s perspectives, the activities and services that are being carried out by these local government bodies will be affected by the political processes unfolding from now on.
We think the people should be responsible for this. There is a responsibility to the people which can not be ignored when it comes to bringing back such a gruesome group to power.
In general, our country has ruled for 70 years by these two parties. During this period, it is clear that the political culture and economy has been degraded, number of crimes increased. As such the general public has a responsibility for them being appointed. ”
