The election commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has put an explanation note in his Face Book about his action of putting a white flag in to his Facebook on independence day in which the government celebrates their 30th Independence day instead of 70th Independence day.
He has put this note as a condolence message for Udara Lakmal, who was in his staff and died recently in an accident. Here is the full message, the Commissioner put in his Facebook.
“Udara Lakmal had finished his duty in investigation of complaining section of the Election Commissioner office at night shift on 2nd February, then he had joined to load the store-equipment in to the two lorries for delivering to the outstations, and then on 3rd of February around 3.40:am, he had started to go to his residence at Meegoda by his motor bike, while other co-workers getting ready to sleep in the office.
He had met with an accident between Athurugiriya and Godagama, hitting his bike in to a van then he died. The Election Commissioner further noted in to his Facebook that, I would demonstrate this white-Flag for the condolence of Udara’s departure. Udara was in the same age of my own son, He was the son of our all adult staff and he was very sincere for all of us with a smile with his face every time. He was always ready to fulfill his duty not measuring whether they are easy or harder.
He was in my personal staff and only 25 years of age. 10 months ago, He married his long-time girl friend called “Hashi” who looks like a daughter of mine. Now she is 10 months pregnant. Therefore Udara looks like to me as my own son and the son-in-law.
Therefore this one white flag is not enough for me to convey my condolences.I am suffering as if i lost my own son and the son-in-law at the same time.”
