The UNP backbench MPs believe that Ravi Karunanayaka’s appearance for the upcoming local election public rallies will be a disadvantage for the party. Therefore they urge the party to expel him from the post of deputy leader of the UNP as well as to remove him from all the activities and responsibilities of the party.
Further, they have been requested to appoint a Senior Leader as a vice president for the UNP. The majority of backbench MPs has requested the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Working Committee.
According to the report of the Presidential Commission on the Central Bank Bond scam, a recommendation has been made to produce Ravi Karunanayake to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption. Therefore, it is not a wise decision to keep him as a vice president of the party, they further added.
