Four Uma Oya Employees Expelled !

Four employees of the Uma Oya project have been expelled from their employment on the 6th November without prior notice. Office Manager asked the workers to come to his office and told them that they are expelled from the jobs. The given reason for expelling was overcrowded workers.
Ranjith who has been working for nearly three years, Kithsiri Banda, who has been in service for two years, Chandrsena, who has been working for more than a year, and fourth employees called Gayan who have employed two months ago are among those.
However, the approval of the Labour Commissioner is compulsory for removal of the employee. The notice should be given to the Commissioner of Labour with the reasons for the removal and also it has to be informed the relevant employees. Then the employee will be given an opportunity to present their rights.
According to the Combined Constructors Association affiliated to the Workers’ Struggle, the removal of employees without fulfillment of legal procedure is against the law. The Association has also complained to the Labour Office in Badulla District.
