The Budget 2018 Is Ready – The Total Borrowing Stand at 1,813 Bn. Rupees !

The government has decided to borrow 1,813 Bn rupees for the year 2018, reveals the records from the Ministry of Finance.
The appropriation bill along with the estimated budget for 2018 was presented by the Minister of Finance and Media to the Cabinet of the Parliament on the 12th and it was approved.
The total expenditure for the year 2018 was estimated as 3,982 Bn rupees.The estimated recurrent expenditure was 1,308.9 Bn rupees and the capital expenditure stood at 668 billion rupees. The government revenue and foreign grants have been estimated as 2,175 Bn rupees.
Further, 6 Bn rupees has been estimated for provision requirement for advanced activities of the government. Sri Lanka’s total borrowings stand at 1,813 Bn rupees and it is expected to cover up as borrowings from both foreign and local sources.
The appropriation bill for the budget 2018 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament at the end of this month.
The budget speech by the Minister of finance, Mangala Samaraweera is scheduled for 9th of November while the debate for the second reading of the appropriation bill is scheduled to have on 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th of November. The debate of the committee members will commence on the 16th November. The vote for the third reading will be held on the 9th of December.
