A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between defense officials of Sri Lanka and the Netherlands on facilitating deployment of personnel to protect naval vessels carrying Netherland flag in Somali waters.

Already, the discussions held between the defence ministries of the two countries and the agreed upon that the Netherlands would use the Galle navy base to store weapons and other equipment required by its personnel assigned for the protection of vessels.

Following the change of government in January 2015, the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe administration discontinued the services of Avant Garde Maritime Services (AGMS) and brought the entire operation under the Navy. Although Sri Lanka has provided weapons storing facilities for many private firms, the proposed MoU with the Netherlands would be the first with a government.
